Consumer Reports On Toyota Tundra Posts in Questions
Consumer Reports claims the new Chevy Silverado is too new to predict reliability, why is that? The new Toyota Tundra, which came out after it, was given a rating of excellent.

LeAnne replied: "Interesting. I suspect the "new" Silverado is simply really "new" while the Toyota Tundra is essentially last years model with perhaps some different trim."

emiller1998 replied: "Consumer Reports has a long history of blindly rating cars they never bothered to test. Consumer Reports said it previously recommended redesigned Toyota models even without enough reliability data "because of the automaker's excellent track record." Of course they say they stopped doing this but I doubt it."

Chevrolet Silverado VS. GMC Sierra VS. Toyota Tundra? Alright...these three trucks are pretty awesome. I need some opinions on all three of them. How smoothly they ride, how the steering is, how well the brakes work, how much leg room and head room there is, the gas mileage, how well the radio/stereo works, and the build of the truck: (Is it tough? Not easily dented? Paint doesn't chip/scratch easily?) So...you don't have to answer all of these...just some, if possible. I just want a bunch of opinions on these trucks. I know that the Chevy is "America's Truck", and that they are quite tough (from previous ownership.) The GMC looks like the Chevy, and they seem pretty similar (I've never owned one, yet.) The Tundra (especially the new ones) seem to have suckish tires, and are easily dented, along with the paint chipping quite easily. Don't say to go online and look up a bunch of information, or check Consumer Reports, because I have. I want opinions...and that's why I'm asking.

Bubba B replied: "The new Chevrolet and GMC have 5 year/100k mile warranty. They are cheaper to repair too."

Howard L replied: "Part one is easy. Silverado and Sierra are essentially identical and come off of the same assembly line. The only differences are the badges and which options are included in a particular trim level or package (Just so the window stickers don't show identical prices). Other than style or interior design there isn't much of a difference between a Tundra and the Silverado/Sierra twins. They are all comfortable with very good reliability."

Evan replied: "i currently have the toyota tundra and it is a very nice truck. the reason i went with it is because i wanted to try something new. i love the overall absolute performance of the truck but nobody knows how reliable they will be in the long run. i have previously owned a chevy silverado 1500 and that is a great truck too. the sierra is basically the same truck as the silverado. if you were to try something new, deffinately go with the tundra, if you want to stay with american made, go with the gmc or chevy. thed tundra rides super smooth and hauls a heavy trailer like nothing. if you dont wear your seat belt though, you will get annoyed with the seatbelt safety alarm. all in all the tundra is a very unexpectedly good truck"

cf_swq replied: "As said, the Silverado and Sierra are the same, just pick what grille you like best. Here's my experience, trying to find a replacement for my Canyon. The GMC(or Chevy) looks great but that is all they have going for them. The interior is extremely cheap. Lots of rattles and squeaks. If they are anything like my Canyon it will only get worse. Legroom is good, headroom, at least on the regular cab, is not. The headliner drops down to cover a bar at the back of the cab right where a tall person would have his head. Radio is typical new GM with goofy controls, built into the dash so an aftermarket system would look out of place. Sound is adequate. Outside we have panels that seem on the thin side. GM switched to waterborne paint a while back and since then the paint has been awful. Orange peel is terrible, it looks like they put it on with a roller. Loads of chipping problems as well. Mechanically I'll say the v6 doesn't have enough power to get out of its own way. It needs the v8. Reliability, I don't think would be a problem. The shifting of the transmission is horrible. It mushes, shifts at the wrong time and makes driving a pain. I was all set to sign the papers for a new one but after trying one for a day I wouldn't even consider owning it. Shame really. I think it's the best looking truck made. My Toyota experience is more limited but I'll say the paint and denting issues are the same or slightly better than the GM. The transmission is the best I've ever had the pleasure to drive. Interior was a bit better too. In general, it just drove like a better truck. Suckish tires can be replaced. I've never found any truck from any manufacturer that came with tires worth keeping. Consumer Reports are suckish too and needs to be replaced as well."
