Assuming you can't do that, try to find descriptions for each scent and base your decision on that. For example, Eternity smells citrusy. Cool Water is crisp. Acqua di Gio is fresh. Rochas is sweet like vanilla. The others I haven't smelled. Also, don't put on so much cologne so you won't be smelled "miles away." Just 1-2 drops on each pulse point, namely: your wrists, behind the ears, and sides of the neck. Personally, I like Acqua di Gio and Rochas Man."

does shower gel smell put you off a man? My mum does the weekly shop and she also buys the shower gel. However because she is a woman she buys (well i consider them normal) maybe womanly shower gel - ie not lynx, adidas etc She would buy something like radox (the white moisturising one), maybe the occasional flowerly type one. I've been using them all my life and now (as I am of age) I wear cologne after showering - really nice ones like armani mania, tom ford for men etc. However do you ladies have any experience with men who use non masculine shower gels? Would the (not too) flowery shower gel put you off the man? Would you think he smells like a woman and that be a big turn off?

My hubby has tried very masculine ones and they are very strong at first, then start to wear off in time. He never uses any that may smell like flowers. He tends to stick with Dial or Zest brands that have neutral sents."

My complaint is that you can't smell the perfume from shower gels after an hour or so afterwards. If you think that is the problem, ask your mum to get a shower gel that suits everyone - Imperial Leather is great for men and women."

If a woman compliments a scent your wearing that's a good sign. Go to a department store, ask for samples and try one on at a time, go with the one that speaks to you.
