Volkswagen Jetta Replacement Key Resource in Questions
Where can i find a key for a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta, that the VW dealer never provided me with? I have asked why didnt my care come with the recommended keys as the the owners manuel suggests I am parapharsing (When selling or trading in your VW) please include key tag, so you can get a replacement key if any our missing, like meatloaf says 2/3 aint bad, but 1 out of 3 is!!!!.... Plus missing key tag.......

oklatom replied: "go back to the dealer. they will be able to assist you with both the key and the tag."

wmw451guy replied: "Get the VIN for the car, go to a dealer with proof of ownership and have them make one up for you. The key tag is a nit, the VIN is what you need."

Cruiser replied: "You should be able to get one cut by using the V.I.N tag on the car. the dealer should have that info. If not , try another VW dealer."

Volkswagen key problems? My volkswagen key along with the Jetta are going on about 5 or 6 years and my wireless remote key has starting to have problems. Every so often one or two or all 4 of the buttons would not function at the same range as when it was new. At first I simply thought it was just the battery dying out, because when I got within a few feet some buttons would work. But lately the buttons would straight up not respond and I've had to open the car using the key (actually putting it into the keyhole), which is a pain after 5 or 6 years being able to open the car wirelessly. Anyways I finally changed the battery inside (cr 2032), but that didn't help any. I tried to troubleshoot this problem but I have no other solution and I do not have any intentions on paying the VW dealer for replacement. The most that has happened to the key is I have camped outside a few times and basically dew has formed on the key in the morning. Just like the grass or the windows are wet in the mornings because of dew Ok so this module sensor thing may be the problem and not the key, am I supposed to check if its functioning by checking the wires, or does it have a battery, too? How could it be blocked. Thanks alot though, I didnt think about that.

Lee replied: "Could you at least take it to the dealer to find out what's wrong with it... then find a cheaper way to get it fixed than at a Volkswagon dealer?!?"

MarJoe replied: "You have a module under the dash that gets the signal from the remote. check and see if the connection is good and clean. If it's ok then the module is no good."

ladybugewa replied: "Have you changed the batteries in the remote? If not, that's the problem. If you have, and it still doesn't work then it's your door sensor. They can be a pain."

hamn replied: "the same thing happened to my GTI key, its not that you did anythign to it, it just gets worn down after a while. i took mine to a VW dealership, and they told me that they couldn't fix it, so i paid for a new one, but they gave me a disciount but, before you go out and spend it, check if your security recognition thing that recieves the alarm signal is being blocked by anything"
