Questions and Answers
where can I get spares for a volvo s40 near the midlands? I require a master cylinder. A new one is expensive. Any one know of any volvo dealers near the midlands

pcar964 replied: "For a new one try: and For a used one, put a request into the online breakers portals, the breakers with the part contact you. ... HTH"

RUSS B replied: "Look up Motor Factors or Car Accessory shops in Yellow pages. Most can supply reconditioned M/Cyls at more reasonable prices. I would avoid scrap yards for brake parts as you don't know if the part is'nt the reason the car is in there. You might be able to buy a seal kit from the dealers - some good motor factors too, but S40 parts like M/Cyls & repair kits are not generally stocked as they aren't a fast mover."

2004 Volvo S40 Spare Key? So I bought a used 2004 Volvo S40 and it only came with one key. I want to have a spare key, but this is not the type that can be easily replicated. I am not sure how to describe it but its sort of like a pocket knife in that you press a button and the key flips out. The key also has buttons to lock/unlock the doors and sound the alarm. So, where do I go to get a spare key and how much should I expect to pay?

kewlick31 replied: "you can get one of ebay for a little cheaper. i got one for 50 bucks but i was lucky.. maybe between 75 and 150 not that sure. but then you have to go the dealer for it to be programmed and they might charge you. Sometimes if it the car was bought fro maa volvo dealer you can ask them for another. because it is standard to have two keys when a car is sold."

Archangel replied: "You are going to have to go to the dealer and have one ordered based on the VIN. They work in conjunction with the anti-theft system and they are about $150. You are supposed to have a valet key so that when you get serviced, the mechanic can't get into your glove compartment."

What is up with the wheel locks on our 2005 Volvo S40? Got our first flat tire today at 23000 miles. Loosened the lugs, removed the small spare, and jacked up the car. After removing the lugs, the wheel would not come off. There was another bolt in the center of the hub--no tool supplied to remove it. After getting a tool to remove the bolt we found another lock underneath it. We called Volvo's 24 hr service line, and they said it had to be towed to the dealer. What in the world is there even a spare tire in there for if a person can't change the tire without having it towed to the dealer? And what if I want to go to a different tire store to get replacements? If only the dealer has the tool to remove the lock, then we HAVE to go to them? P.S. I will ask the dealer, but it is Sunday night here. Not much to do but sit and stew until tomorrow morning.

motnaleek replied: "they want every penny from us human beings this world is f--k-d u-p"

justmyjusrty replied: "Actually I have never heard of this before, a friend of mine has a volvo s40 and there is no problem changing the tire. Could it be something someone added aftermarket? P.S I found a link for you."

svthech replied: "The bolt in the center has nothing to do with the wheel, the wheel only fastened by those five or four lug nuts (bolts) - you can find exact instructions in your owner's manual. If the wheel is not coming off, it's just got sized on the hub because of some corrosion inside. This usually happens with alloy wheels that haven't been rotated (they supposed to be rotated every other oil change). Try to kick the wheel gently all around if it won't get loose, install the lug nuts back and tow it to a garage. Good luck!"
