Please tell me step by step how to replace an '02 Ford Escape radio/CD player with the same I got from a wreck I think I can do this, but would like step by step directions from a person familiar with the process, such as a former Ford technician or car audio installer. Thanks for any help you can give.

mrharris32 replied: "You can certainly do it, especially if the unit you're putting in is an OEM factory head unit. A 12 year old could do it with the right tools ;) Ford uses a snap and catch mechanism to hold the head unit in. You'll notice 4 small holes on the face of the head unit, 2 on each side of it. This is how you remove the stereo believe it or not. You can do one of 2 things...the first is go the auto parts store and buy the Ford stereo removal tool (about $10), basically a small U shaped piece of metal that fits into those holes...you pull out (to the right if on the right, to the left if on the left) and it releases the snap and catch...the head unit slides right out. The other option is a bit more difficult and may have you cussing. You can attempt to make the tool out of a wire hanger....simple cut the straight long piece out of a hanger, bend it into a U-shape that lines up with the holes and follow the same procedure above. The problem with this is the hanger diameter...most of them are just a touch big in size, you'll get it out but you may have to try a few times before it catches. Once the head unit is out simply unplug the connector in the back....1 large and 1 for the antenna. Plug the connections back into the new unit and simply push it in the radio bay until you hear it snap/click into place. That's it. Ford did not use any special coding or vehicle identification in their stereo systems in 2002, it should power right up. The above document is not specific to your vehicle but step 1 on page 3 does show you how to remove the typical Ford head unit. Hope this helps!"

ford escape stops while filling gas? i have a 2005 ford escape. when i fill it up with has the valve shuts off like its full. it constantly does this and it takes forever to fill the tank! i didnt have any issues with it and now it takes a lot of time to fill the tank and it gets really frustrated. same thing happens at every gas station so its gotta be something with the car. car has never been in a wreck, or had any body damage. i didnt find any info on recall. anyone else having this problem? thanks

MW replied: "You need to have the filler hose checked. This runs between the gas cap and the fuel tank, it may be kinked or may have collapsed on itself. if the hose is kinked you can replace the hose and this should solve the problem of the nozzle continually shutting off."

Angel.tm replied: "Kinked hose, very cheap to replace. Tilt the nozzle up more when you're filling it up. Could be a clogged filter as well. Summary it's not cost you as much to fix it as it will for you to fill up!"

I just wrecked my mom's car....HELP!? About an hour ago, I drove my mom's ford escape down the dirt road to check on the mail. There wasn't any mail there. So, I drove down the road a little further, just for fun. Well, I turned around...headed up the road. Then, the car ran out of gas. (The gas light and the alarm thingy didn't go off) So, the car swerved, and I hit a tree stump. My neighbors came, and they pulled my mom's ford escape to my house, and parked it in between my dad's two trucks. My little brother, dad, and I are supposed to go to Branson this afternoon, and he just walked in the door. I asked him which car we are taking to Branson, and he told me the Ford Escape. I mean, the wreck wasn't all my fault. I didn't mean any harm.....BUT, the front right tire is completely blown, while my neighbor was pulling the car to my house, the tire came off, and the front frame hit the ground and dragged.....I am worried sick. WHAT SHOULD I DO? PLEASE GIVE ME ADVICE A.S.A.P.

buddy_236 replied: "Tell them now, they will find out anyhow."

ken k replied: "put the spare on"

Shinigami117 replied: "what did you freak out when the gas light went on? did u swerve? if so its your fault. Did the car start to wobble then swerved by itself? before u swerved did you hear a pop? if so its not your fault. about the tire.... is that where most of the impact was? how fast were u going??? anyway just tell the truth ASAP... your gonna get alot of shit, but just go through with it! good luck!"

Joseph the Second replied: "TELL Your Dad- BEFORE He finds out for Himself. He'll be TWICE as mad- if You don't !!! :o"

scott s replied: "play dumb. then get sick and pass out"

Jimbob replied: "Tell your dad NOW. Tell him the truth which is that when the car ran out of gas the power steering quit working because the engine was no longer running and caused the accident. Then go put the spare on and find someone to borrow another spare from so that you don't have to go to branson without one. This will show that you are thoughtful and are trying to make the best of a bad situation. Parents will still be upset but not as bad when you demonstrate responsability."

Willie replied: "tell your dad and put you head Between your legs and kiss your but good by my sons would have walked they didn't drive tell they had there own and could pay there own ins for that reson if its your and you have pay for it ypu will take better care of it"

Howard L replied: ""What should I do?" "I mean, the wreck wasn't all my fault." It sounds like the first thing you need to do is grow up and learn to accept responsibility for your mistakes. You were driving, out of gas doesn't make a car swerve, the car didn't go into the tree on it's own. IT IS COMPLETELY YOUR FAULT unless you think the tree stump should have moved out of the way."

Wrecked Car....?!? Part 2...please help? Ok, so 19 minutes ago I posted a question telling you guys that I wrecked my mom's car. ~~~~~~~~ I am so nervous to tell my dad. YES, I am going to tell him, but I feel like he's going to be so ticked off at me! Like I mentioned, we are supposed to be taking that car to Branson...oops..well I guess we can't lol. My aunt is a doctor, and she came to my house a few minutes ago. She examined my hand, and my back. I have 2nd degree burns, I broke some of my knuckles on my left hand, and I have a deep cut on my back. Other than that I am fine. The gas alarm and light DID NOT come on to warn me. I don't know why it didn't. But, when the car finally ran out of gas, the car swerved ON IT'S OWN. Well......my dad is taking a nap right now. I wrote on my mom's facebook wall just now telling her thanks for not leaving any gas in the ford escape because Dad, Chandler, and I were going to take it up to Branson. She just called me saying that all I have to do is call my grandfather, and ask him if he can bring some gas down to the house. She doesn't know about the car wreck either. When I talked to her, she seemed really pissed about something :( I am extremely scared, and I just don't know what to do.....

Willie replied: "your a dum as/ make it sound like it her falt i hope they put a boot up your as/ the first thing you sould now is to check the oil water and gas that way you dont run out stopped"

gazz replied: "wake your dad and tell him his main concern should be that youre ok and you cant help it if things unexpectidly run out in front of you ;)"

Jimbob replied: "when I answered your first question I didn't know there was a part 2. Apparently the wreck was worse than I thought.I don't know how you got the cut on your back or how you broke some of your knuckles but one thing is for sure, you are young, scared, hurt, and upset and you can expect your parents to be upset too. They need to keep their cool and not make this situation worse by yelling at you or making you feel any worse. Hope your injuries heal real quick and understand that your parents will be upset but they have no right to be so pissed that they can't control their actions. I'm sure they love you and wish this didn't happen. Even if you were driving too fast or somehow caused this and it is 100 percent your fault at least you are not critically injured. Learn from this experience and don't rely on a light or alarm to tell when you are out of gas or anything else. It is the drivers responsibility to make sure the vehicle is safe to drive and has enough oil, anti-freeze, gas etc..I'm sure you are worried but this is not the end of the world as the car can be fixed or replaced but you can't."

Car Wreck :(? cheer me up. I just got in my first wreck. Got my license June 18th on my bday. Wrecked today. I've had my car since March. It wasn't my fault thank god! i got hit in the back. this lady ran a red light and i went straight and she hit me. her air bags deployed and mine didn't. Im really glad her kid sat in the back instead of the front. a little kid. and yeah. Accordin to the witness, AT&T guys. They were behind her and saw it. Told me and the cops it was her fault. and they told me i spun in my car. 2002 Ford Escape and I drive a 1995 Mitsubish Eclipse GST. My dad is comin home at 4. How do i tell him. Wasn't my fault. HE DIDN'T YELL! thanks guys

pontiacpowered71 replied: "Just tell your Dad the truth; Im sure he loves you and will be more concerned that your ok than the damage to the car. Thats what insurance and Insurance reduction courses are for."

grasshoppah replied: "dont worry if you were rear ended it is always the other drivers fault,,,failure to stop in the assured clear distance...your dad will know this,,,"

thatoneguy replied: "Convince him the witnesses told you it was the lady's fault. Good luck, man."

MaryandZ replied: "Be honest if it was not your fault well it is not your fault. Your Dad can help you learn how to deal with an insurance claim. It will be ok no one was hurt. There are millions of cars your Dad only has one you."

chris2EM replied: "if what you say is true, you should have no problem telling him"

Wickwire replied: "Sorry to hear about your accident. Hopefully it will be the last car accident you will ever have. Tell dad a lady ran a red light and rear ended your car."

namrepus replied: "Just explain it clearly and dont get nervous. Tell him all the scenario, and if possible you can bring a witness if there is. Dont be afraid about the damages, his car insurance company will provide necessary action about this. Try to visit this cheap car insurance site for some useful car insurance information and additional details."

Nate W replied: "It's not your fault, you'll be taken care of. That's what insurance is for. Call your insurance company and explain the situation they will get the ball rolling and her insurance company will have your car fixed in no time. Oh and you can tell Dad his insurance rates shouldn't go up."

Scott H replied: "What's he going to do, beat you because you got rear-ended? You happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. It wasn't your fault. Just be glad you weren't hurt. I'm sure your dad will see it that way, too."

airbag light? My 2003 Ford Escape has a flashing airbag light. This light came on while driving down the street. Info about the vehicle: 2003 model year with 2.0 liter inline four and 5 speed manual transmission. 2 wheel drive version with 27,000 miles on it. Immaculate condition and never been wrecked. What could cause this light to come on given the circumstances? Is there a way to reset it? Please respond ASAP, this is the wifes car and she's on my case.

Ron B replied: "The light is warning that the computer found a problem with the air bag system and has disabled it. Take it to a shop and have it diagnosed>"

dodge man replied: "those have sensors located on different parts of the car so in case of an accident they will set the air bags off, sometimes those sensors go bad,and that's usually what causes the light to come on or flash like that, you can take it and have the computer scanned on it,this will help you in repairing it,it probably will tell you which sensor is bad, they aren't hard to replace, sometimes a little high priced though, but that's probably whats causing it,the air bag will still work in the event of an accident, but it needs to be repaired, auto zone can scan it,and at least give you an idea of which sensor it might be wrong with it,then you can go from there with it,good luck."

Question about my wreck.? i was recently in a wreck. I noticed when they where dragging it onto the tow truck the front wheel was sheered off the transmission(front wheel drive) and the wheel was smashed under the door. The suspension was still attached but had been bent back with the wheel. The suspension is attached to the top of the wheel well so I assume it bent the top of the wheel well. Would this type of structure damage make it a total loss? If not what type of structure damage would make it a total loss. Plus if there are any body shop guys out there, what is your best guesstimate on replacing, painting and labor for the front end, hood, quarter panel, wheel, tire and all the rest of the damage that goes along with a wheel being broken off a transmission on a fwd 2007 Ford Escape.

Isabella J replied: "yibayabaduba"

ctsmrvn replied: "The insurance company declares the car a "total loss" when they determine that it would cost more to repair it than simply to give you a check for it. Only an insurance agent from the company which carries your policy can tell you what the company's rules are, since every company works with different formulas and methods of determining "total loss.""

captsead0nkey replied: "Depends on the value of the car, and the extent of the damage. Since the front wheel was in the door, this more than likely has a bent frame, and would result in the replacement of the whole front suspenstion, possible transmission damage if the axle broke in the trans, all the body work and supports. I would bet very likely that this will be a bought out by the insurance company because the cost to repair it would be almost close to the value of the replacement. they will offer you blue book value, and take possestion, and sell the car to a junk yard where they will part it out.."

mtwaites replied: "Just from what I have read on what you have written, it sounds like a complete write off. You will have to probably pay a lot in order to get your vehicle fixed."

Best SUV under $5000, under 90K? I need to replace my totaled, black-ice wrecked, Isuzu Rodeo. Considering today's economy, I would prefer a Domestic SUV. I also prefer a 4x4, but will settle for FWD. I currently like the Ford Escape FWD (the older 4x4 Escapes don't seem to handle as well). I also like the Jeep Liberty and Cherokee Classic. However...I am open for suggestions. I need a dependable SUV that will handle the daily commute to work, road trips, loaded up camping trips, and hauling large items. And I really don't want to leave it in the shop every time I turn around...but if it does need work done, I'd like the parts to be cheap and the labor to be semi-easy... Lot to ask for $5000? Nevermind...I'll never know if I don't ask... Please help!

ElGrande replied: "Jeep's resale isn't the greatest, so you might be able to find a Cherokee or Grand Cherokee (not a Wrangler, though, as they tend to hold their value... the only one of the bunch to do so) for the price and mileage you're wanting. I've seen 6-7 year old Grand Cherokees go for under $5K, with decent miles for the age. I'm sure you can hunt Craigslist, Autotrader, or Vehix and see what your area offers."

I know what I want replied: "Most all models sold in America are "Domestic", except some european companies which still resist moving their factories here. But all Asian companies are domestic now. So buy anything you like. I recommend the Toyota Rav4. But as you know, finding even a used Japanese "designed" car for under 5k might be diffcult. As as long as you are buying a used car, you are not putting anything into the industry anyway, not even for parts, unless you buy genuine parts from the dealer."

Car accident costs? I was involved ina car accidnet today. Not my fault. got rear ended . anyways. how much do you think it is going to cost to fix. 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST. The tow truck guy said I should consider it totalled. Going out to insurance tomorrow. Got hit on the passenger side wheel on the back. It dented it and bent the wheel. Bad thing: Rims are 17" Exel and paint job is custom. And the dent is alright. Pretty big. her suv's air bag deployed and it leaked. Ford Escape. Im really surprised my Eclipse held up that well. I also spun in the wreck. She ran red light. Thanks pretty sure its a bent rear axle and a big dent. and im gonna need a new rim I paid $3500. If it matters on kbb.com Suggested Retail Value: $6,720 (doubt i'll get that) Trade in: Excellent- $3,325 good- $2,690 Fair- $2,350 i don't know if thats how the insurance calculates prices. It has 109,600 miles. leather, power drivers seat, single after market cd player, premium sound system, all power, sunroof, and spoiler, and premium wheels 17", custom paint job

J H replied: "Well the year is what really hurts it, hard to give you an estimate without seeing it, even best case scenario it is 4K retail repair on a car that is worth 5K to the insurance company that is 75% of the cars value so insurance might total it, the insurance company might let you buy it back for 10-20% of what they pay out on the car so you might want to buy it back and find a bodyman that wants to do some side work get the car fixed up for $1,500 or so."

Idiot boys and their stupid rice rocket toys...? Ok, so I was on my home from running a few errands in town and I decide to take the freeway home. So I'm putting along at 65, doing the speed limit when all of a sudden I look in my left side mirror and see four cars coming up fast behind me. There's other cars too, fellow traffic. So anyway, they fly by me doing AT LEAST 90 and they're those little obnoxious sub compact Japanese cars with the wings and loud exhaust... fast and furious kinda cars. They start screwing around while they're driving, racing, cutting people off, brake checking each other and whatnot when suddenly the guy driving the red Honda CRX rear ends some lady in a Ford Escape and turns, slamming head on into the guardrail. That guy gets into that wreck and I slam on my brakes and shoot onto the shoulder to avoid hitting one of THE OTHER idiots, then I slide sideways and hit the guardrail also putting a nasty scratch in my fender and side. Anyway, po-po, firetruck, ambulance show up and start taking statements from people involved (witnesses) and as I'm waiting for a cop to come up and take a statement from me, one of the rice rocketeers comes up to me and asks if I'm ok. I tell him I'm a little shaken up but that's it. Then this guy has the BALLS to ask me for my number!!! WTF!? I am SO pissed off at the moment, I tell him, "you f**king idiots just caused your buddy to get in a nasty wreck and you're asking me for my f**king number? You are SO f**king lucky there's a damn cop standing over there or I would seriously beat the living sh*t out of you! Not to mention I hit the rail and f**ked up my own car because of you guys? You wanna ask me again dumbass?" Ok, so it was a long read... I'm sorry. But my question is... Why in the hell would ANY guy do that, especially after his friend is sitting in the front seat with his face splattered against the dashboard and windshield of a car? Any explanations?? I drive a white '09 Hyundai Sonata This happened today, exactly one hour ago (2:16 pm in Califronia)

whatever_noone replied: "I don't know. Maybe they're just f*cking dumbasses like you said."

AznKid replied: "Cause he thinks he is hella sick for driving a rice rocket. Actually its sorta funny cause at my school all the kids that drive pocket rockets are the safe drivers, cause they are the ones that actually paid for their car and have had to work for it. All the rich boys, whose daddy's bought them their BMW's and etc. are the obnoxious ones. They are the ones who always show off and drive recklessly cause they have no idea what it actually means to EARN something. EDIT: lol, This reminded me of a kid at my school who is 16, just got his license, and in less than 2 months he totaled a brand new Land Rover LR3. Afterward his parents bought him a new Cadillac Escalade. Yea I know wtf...? BTW I drive a 94 Civic that I payed for completely (insurance, gas, and etc)."

Ben replied: "He probably thinks he is a big shot for street racing and thinks he can get all the ladies. Answer mine:"
